Bathroom flooring is different than flooring in other parts of the home. You need something that can withstand water without damage. If you’re undergoing a bathroom remodel, now is a great time to consider a better flooring option for your bathroom floors.
Tile
Perhaps the most popular option today for bathroom floors is porcelain or ceramic tile. The benefits are that it’s waterproof, looks great, and can be very affordable. If you decide tile is right for your new bathroom floors, be sure to choose one that has some texture to help prevent slip-and-fall accidents.
There is a difference between porcelain and ceramic tile. If you have a bathroom where you want the same tile on the floor of the shower and the floor in the rest of the room, you should choose porcelain. Porcelain tile has a lower water absorption rate than ceramic tile so it can withstand being in a shower daily. For powder rooms or bathrooms with a combination tub/shower, either type of tile can be used.
COREtec®
We love COREtec flooring for many reasons, but one of the top reasons is its waterproof nature. This makes it a great option for any bathroom floor from a main bath to a powder room. If you want the look of wood floors, consider COREtec plank styles. If you want the look of tile but don’t want the hardness, COREtec Plus Tiles come in a nice selection of colors and patterns. The only drawback is that you can’t have COREtec in your shower, so you’ll need to choose a coordinating porcelain tile if you’re going to have a tiled shower.
Natural Stone
The beauty of natural stone is unmatched, but the cost can put it out of reach for many homeowners. Natural stone has another drawback in the bathroom in that it’s slippery. Before choosing granite, limestone, or marble, consider that when wet, it’s very slick.
