We had the privilege of removing the heart pine flooring from the cottages on the Belleview Biltmore property. If you’re familiar with the “cottages,” you’ll know they were more like large homes at over 3,000 square feet each. Built between 1900 and 1915, the original hardwood flooring is of the highest quality. Some boards are even marked by the original manufacturer as being specifically made for the Belleview Biltmore. We’ve also removed the 1×6 casings and ceiling beams and are in the process of having that milled into engineered wood flooring.
With visits from nearly every president since Woodrow Wilson, dignitaries like Margaret Thatcher and the Duke of Windsor, entertainers including Joan Baez and Bob Dylan, and sports icons Joe DiMaggio and Babe Ruth, who wouldn’t want to bring some of the Belleview Biltmore history into their home?
Belleview Biltmore Reclaimed Wood Flooring
If you have one of the many historic homes in St. Petersburg or Tampa and want to keep your home as close to authentic as possible, this heart pine is an excellent option. Not only are we painstakingly removing the nails from the wood by hand but the refinished product has uncovered some of the most beautiful pattern and color of any pine we’ve ever had — new or reclaimed.
This hardwood is dense and some of the most durable wood available. Unlike new pine flooring, heart pine is one of the harder hardwoods on the Janka scale rating in the 1200’s. For comparison, most commercially available new pine flooring is white pine and its hardness is around 400. The higher the rating, the more durable; this old heart pine is very resistant to dents and scratches.
Choosing reclaimed wood not only preserves history, but also provides you with beautiful, durable and unique flooring. It is unlike any new hardwood flooring available today. One of our passions at Seer Flooring is to keep the historic homes in our area as close to how they were built 100 or more years ago. We’ve been in many homes where renovations were done in the 70’s and 80’s that either destroyed, covered or removed the original wood floors. We want to bring back the classic look and feel by refinishing the hardwood floors or replacing the tile, laminate, or other flooring with reclaimed wood.
